social-media-awards-2014Dublin based Youthful Buzzword PR, are today shocked, surprised and overwhelmed with the news that they have been nominated for a Social Media Award - even though they nominated themselves.

By Cormac Moore

They took to all their social media channels today, to inform their thousands of fans about the good news – however there hasn’t been much interaction, as the majority of the company’s fans are paid bots and not real people.

The company thought it was a clever online strategy to purchase thousands of fake Facebook fans and Twitter followers, after one of their interns read something about “social proof” in Robert Cialdini’s book on persuasion and influence.

Speaking to The Potato, Youthful Buzzword said:

We know just how important social media is. So much so that we pride ourselves on getting transition year students in to manage the day to day Facebook and Twitter accounts of our clients and we’re over the moon by being nominated. We really had no idea and it’s just great to finally get recognition for all our hard work.

Youthful Buzzword have seen an increase in their workload since nominating themselves for the awards. Client’s projects had to be put off, as they devised a clever cross-platform multimedia plan, that would give the impression that someone else had nominated them in an attempt to build credibility with potential clients.

Although, recent research has shown that blatantly lying to your audience does in fact damage your brand and profile, leading to a negative impact on business levels.

The Social Media Awards takes place June 5th in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
